Founded on October 5, 2009 by Dr. Nzingha Samuel-Owusu and Alysia Dumas, BSEI emerged from a need for a fresh, innovative approach to education that blends African culture, critical thinking, and project-based learning into a uniquely immersive experience.
After five years of serving the Atlanta community, BSEI transitioned into a fully virtual model, carefully selecting students who align with our mission. Today, we continue to provide an exceptional, culturally grounded education that prepares students for success beyond the classroom.
We believe education should be:
Our goal is to cultivate critical thinkers who are intrinsically motivated, disciplined, and creative problem solvers. We provide an environment where students can fully develop their genius—academically, personally, and professionally.
Our educational model is built on five key foundations:
BSEI is more than a school—
it’s a movement.
Our mission is to cultivate a new generation of leaders, innovators, and critical thinkers who are deeply rooted in their cultural identity and equipped to excel in an ever-evolving world.
We are committed to an education that empowers, challenges, and prepares our students not just for academic success, but for life. Through a rigorous, culturally grounded curriculum, entrepreneurship training, and real-world application, we foster self-determination, discipline, and a commitment to community.
BSEI has been accredited with quality by the Georgia Accrediting Commission since 2010.
